FOMP was set up by 7 people living close to the park, all of whom were keen to see Morley Park become a great addition to Merton’s impressive collection of parks. Like all parks it benefits from having a Friends group to work with the Council and their maintenance contractor to improve and promote it. The Council prefers to work with Friends groups dedicated to work on a single park which they know very well, rather than residents’ groups with many competing demands on their time. When FOMP was set up in August 2017 the park was expected to open by early September 2017 but, because of lengthy delays in agreeing the legal documentation to transfer the park to the Council, it didn't open until 4th May 2019. We unexpectedly found ourselves in the unusual position of being a Friends Group without a park for 20 months!
